Minutes

 

Present:  Bruce Bradley, Artina Sadler, Jan Hartranft, Joanne Mondowney,  Jack LeSage, Greg Fielder, Matt Zacks, Morrie Warshawski, Sue Wood

Absent:  Cindy Ornstein, Tim Shickles, Kay Kelly, Michael Kelly, Deborah Kohler, Robin Maynard, Tim Herman, Paul Torre

 

Update:

  • GFAC has received 116,000 from the Ruth Mott Foundation for Phase Three
  • Morrie has moved to California, but will still be involved, just not as accessible
  • Sue has moved to Ann Arbor and will be gradually withdrawing from the project

 

Cultural Plan

  • Gets rave reviews from people across the country with whom Morrie has shared
  • Needs to be widely distributed locally, regionally and nationally—GFAC will do.  Include in cover letters launch date and how to get involved
    • Sue has provided GFAC with rosters of all participants—Cover letter #1 with invitation to attend launch
    • VIP’s, elected officials (get list from library)—Cover Letter #2
    • Greg will also send to his list of 2,500—Cover letter #2
    • Cool Cities Attendees—Cover letter #2
    • State, regional and national folks—Cover letter #3

Phase Three

  • Re-form Task Forces around the major goals. Each Task force will do;

1.      Benchmarking—research and site visits

2.      Action Planning

a.       Recommend next steps and actions.

b.       Some things will take years, some can happen now.  What can you do NOW to move this goal forward?

3.      Mini grants for implementation projects

a.       Action projects in each goal area

b.      Maybe put out and RFP to the community

 

  • Document and produce a report
  • Evaluator
    • RMF added $10,000 for a professional evaluator
    • Need to identify someone in the state to start right away
  • Launch Phase Three with a public event with food and entertainment
    • Tues. April 26 or Wed. April 27
    • Check on availability of the library
  • Linkage with other planning efforts (Community Challenge, 500 Block).  CCP should take the initiative on this coordination and be the active body that connects all

 

Coordinator Position

  • Needs a desk, computer and phone
  • May be at GFAC or somewhere else
  • Personnel Selection Committee
    • Bruce, Greg, Jack, Artina, Matt
    • Recruit some from team members who are absent
    • Committee meets Wed. March 23, 4:00 – 5:00 PM at GFAC
    • Tasks
      • Finalize job description
      • Include duration (one year) and salary range
      • Determine process for distributing job description (websites, Flint Journal ad, Uncommon Sense ad)
      • Do by March 30
      • Goal:  someone selected by April 20

 

Questions:

  • When can Facilitation Team meet again?  Mon, Tues. or Wed. Ap. 4, 5 or 6.  Sue will poll the team
  • Do we need to invite anyone else to join the Facilitation Team?
