Summary Vision Statement

Our Vision of Arts and Culture for the Underserved in Greater Flint is that Arts and Culture becomes part of their daily lives by:

  1. Creating a broader definition of Arts and Culture including informal, non-traditional modes that represents diverse cultures.
  2. Showcasing local artists.
  3. Creating an equitable public art and culture tax and equitable fund distribution system. This will also incorporate corporate sponsorship of local artists.
  4. Giving value to local art and artists making it and them a source of pride.
  5. Having an Art Bus for free transportation to facilities.
  6. Creating several communication mechanisms for arts and culture including art and culture advocates in local communities.
  7. Creating consumer friendly, multi-generational opportunities to be involved in art.
  8. Having complete art programs in all the schools.

  3. There is an opportunity to see “off Broadway” quality shows without the price.

  6. There are community based arts and culture in the neighborhoods like at community centers or art branches.
  7. There is transportation to arts and cultural events.
  8. University faculty and students are exposing community students to arts and culture.
  9. There are complete arts and culture programs in all the schools.
  10. There are multi-generational programs for the whole family at the same time.
  11. Arts programs are just as valued as sports.
  12. There are more national art and music artists playing in the area rather than the low-end groups.
  13. There are showcases for local art talent.
  14. There are spaces for the development of artists.
  15. Emphasis is on services for empty nesters that want to recapture past interests.
  16. Arts and culture will be source of pride.
  17. Corporate sponsorships of local arts is plentiful.
  18. There is an equitable tax for equal distribution of arts across the community.
  19. There is an art bus or free cultural pass for facilities.
  20. There is a clearinghouse for ticket distribution.
  21. There good communication of availability of programs (radio, TV, word of mouth).
  22. All types of art and culture have access to traditional venues.
  23. There are High School talent shows again.
  24. There are cutting edge, independent, underground radio stations.
  25. There are lots of arts advocates in the underserved communities.
  26. There is a 24 hour arts and culture scene – showcasing a variety of things.
  27. There is outside public art and sculptures downtown created by local artists.
  28. There are street performers.
  29. There are neighborhood community festivals.
