OUT 'N ABOUT FLINT

I wish to thank all GFAC members for your support and understanding of how the arts can play a role in human rights. We have received statewide recognition for the Out N About Flint project. Leaders from other communities are calling for details so they can emulate the Out N About Flint project in their regions. I was able to attend most of the Out N About Flint events and was impressed by attendance and the spirit of understanding and compassion. I experienced first hand the healing power of the arts to draw people together through their common humanity rather than alienation for their differences. I saw many GFAC members at the events and was encouraged by your participation. Together we can make Flint and Genesee County the coolest of Michigan’s Cool Cities!

I thank all of our partners in the Out N About Flint project: Our founding partner Buckham Gallery and event partners American Civil Liberties Union of Greater Flint, Fandangles’, Flint City Theatre,  Flint Cultural Center Corporation, Flint Institute of Arts, Flint Public Library, Flint Youth Theatre, Good Beans Café, The New McCree Theater, Mott Community College, Pages Book Store, PFLAG of Genesee County, Redeemer Metropolitan Community Church of Flint, Red Ink Studios, Sloan Museum, Unitarian Universalist Church of Flint, University of Michigan-Flint, Wellness HIV/AIDS Services, the Whiting and Woodside Church.

I thank all of our Out N About Flint Sponsors: American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan, Arcus Foundation Gay and Lesbian Fund, Associates in Family Medicine/Dr. Lynn Walker, MD and Mark Folts, FNP. Between the Lines, River Gallery of Chelsea, Triangle Foundation and T. S. Jenkins & Associates.

Community Cultural Planning

We convened committees of stakeholders--local arts agency representatives, funders, business and community people-- to create a plan to create, increase and sustain arts and cultural activities and entities. The planning portion of this project is finished and we are now in the implementation phase. The Community Cultural Plan has generated new funding for small arts agencies and arts projects through a mini grant program and will help develop wider audiences for area arts and culture events through an interactive web site. This website will help increase awareness of arts and culture events in the area, make it easier for people to purchase tickets and will link arts and culture events with area businesses such as hotels and restaurants.
